Waterfront II is a multifunctional complex, by JEMS Architekci, located on the Gdynia waterfront – in the area of Kościuszko Square and the President’s Quay. Beautiful and sustainable architecture has been created in this difficult, post-industrial area of the city. It is full of unique greenery and carefully crafted urban architecture. The buildings combine modern design with references to the modernist character of Gdynia.
We wanted to include all these observations in our wayfinding design. The 3D and graphic design of this signage refer directly to the nature of the investment. The main information totems have a pleasant, rounded finish — just like the ships standing in the port. Key information for users is written in the elegant NT Fabulous font, which has been combined with the sans-serif Futura PT for readability. The whole is complemented by matching pictograms – based on the NT Fabulous font and characterized by smooth, vibrant lines.
Custom pictograms, created specifically for this project, flow with the same rhythm as the architecture around them. Their geometry resonates with the simplicity of Gdynia’s modernism and the maritime character of the site. Together, these elements form a signage system that doesn’t dominate the space, but enhances it.
