Słoneczne Tarasy is a contemporary residential building in central Łódź designed by the architectural studio Marciniak & Witasiak Architekci.
The building completes the historic street frontage while deliberately stepping back its front façade to create a small urban forecourt framed by an openwork steel arcade. This distinctive structural element becomes both an architectural ornament and a reference to the industrial character of the city.
For this development, we designed a comprehensive wayfinding system that reflects the architectural character of Słoneczne Tarasy. The signage combines an industrial expression – visible in its structural form and detailing – with an elegant appearance achieved through carefully selected materials and refined finishes.
The system is monochromatic, yet its palette is sophisticated and nuanced, giving the entire identity a coherent and noble character.
The typographic foundation of the signage is ABC Whyte Inktrap, a contemporary sans-serif typeface known for its precise geometry and distinctive ink traps. Originally developed to improve legibility at smaller sizes, the ink traps give the letterforms a subtle technical sharpness and personality, which resonates with the industrial yet refined identity of the building.
A characteristic linear pattern accompanies the typography and becomes a key visual motif throughout the system. A distinctive feature of the signage is custom engraving based on an original graphic pattern. The engraved texture serves as a background for longer informational content, while enlarged floor numbers and stairwell markings are cut out from the surface, creating depth, contrast, and a strong visual hierarchy.
