The campus of the Silesian University in Cieszyn is one of the few places in Poland where you can see very clearly what the idea of a university campus is all about. The university, dormitories (adapted for the disabled), sports facilities (swimming pool, hall, gyms, sports fields), lecture theatre, art gallery, library, reading room, canteen, modern conference centre and student club are a network of interconnected parts that create a place for integration and cooperation.
The large number of facilities and the complex structure of the campus were conducive to getting lost. It was necessary to develop a signage system to make it easier to navigate the campus. This is particularly important for new students and visitors to the university. So external maps, internal maps, an extensive wayfinding system and a customised pictogram design system were created. The whole project was also embedded in the university’s existing branding, and the wayfinding itself is a continuation of our work on comprehensive signage in other Silesian University buildings. The project meets the economic criteria of a public institution, and was prepared entirely from readily available materials. This allows the university to take care of its updating and appearance itself.
