spinPLACE is an initiative by the University of Silesia in Katowice to create a regional, interuniversity, business center for creativity and coworking, as well as prototyping and animating projects. It is a space for action and creative thinking, which utilizes the potential of Silesian universities in creating and implementing products and services. It provides opportunities for interesting development for students, doctoral students, companies and Silesian residents.
It was built in a historic building at 5 Bankowa Street in the very center of Katowice. The building is more than 110 years old, having opened in 1911 as the headquarters of the Reichsbank. In the interwar period it was taken over and expanded by the Bank of Poland, and later became the Katowice headquarters of the National Bank of Poland, which was its user until 2006, after which the building passed into the hands of the University of Silesia.
Wayfinding, which was created for this building, is a continuation of the system we prepared for the other buildings and the campus of the University of Silesia. However, the color palette used in the signage has been toned down and is a distinguishing element of this project. Due to the prestige of the initiative, as well as the sophisticated architecture of the building’s interiors, we were keen to choose a color scheme and materials that would make the entire system elegant, while the signage maintains appropriate contrast and legibility.
