The history of departures from the Polish lands is hundreds of years old. From the initiative of the city’s authorities, the historical edifice of the Marine Station became the first museum in the country dedicated to the history of Polish emigration. The premises of the Emigration Museum in Gdynia are located in the historic building of the Marine Station which was built in the interwar period.
Our task, as designers of the visual information system elements, was to emphasize and complement the beauty of this modernist building – so that the final product of our design would look like an integral part of the already existing space. These assumptions have led us to use precious materials (wood, steel, etc.) and to refer to the design of the 1920s and 1930s. Our goal was to design carriers that are fun in form and pleasant in perception (that’s why we have decided to build the carriers from modules which can be freely combined).
